The Rules

I've been on teh internetz for more than a few days, so I know how futile it would be to attempt to post rules for behavior on my blog.  These rules aren't for visitors.  They're for me.

Ever since I was a very little girl badgering my mother to tell me more about recent United States presidents on the way to the grocery store, I've liked politics.  I'm fascinated by the different concepts of law and leadership.  I like the concept that the course of a nation isn't determined by fate, or God, or anything else, but by political decisions.  I like that, regardless of the intent behind those decisions, there is a purity of actions leading directly to consequences.  I like trying to discover the actual truth of how decisions affect the nation, separate from the spin and the soundbites.

I like that it's not easy to do.  Soundbites are easy, and insults are easy, but actually searching for the right thing to do is very difficult.  It means constantly re-evaluating, and it means debate, and it means remaining inquisitive as opposed to sticking mindlessly to a certain party line or ideology.

With that in mind, here are my rules for this blog: rules I will try my very best to stick to:

-I will remember that, although I do think some people are just plain evil, the vast majority of people advocate the political stances they do because they really, truly, believe that they're the right thing for the country.  I may think they're wrong, but I will always remember that they are well-meaning.  Because of that:

-I will never use disparaging nicknames for politicians or political groups.
